Workshop on Low-Resolution Face Analysis

In conjunction with the 10th IEEE International Conference on

Advanced Video and Signal-Based Surveillance (AVSS)

Call for papers (PDF)

The automatic analysis of faces in images and videos plays an important role in many different areas, such as video surveillance, human-computer/human-robot interaction, video games, or augmented reality just to name a few. Despite much improvement in the quality of the captured image or video data, the actual face image resolution is often very small in many applications (<30 pixels wide), for example in video surveillance due to the distance of the persons from the sensor.

Further, the high variability of the visual appearance, different view points, uncontrolled lighting conditions, partial occlusions, as well as non-rigid deformations due to facial expressions make reliable face analysis a challenging task.

This workshop aims to bring together researchers to discuss novel, generic approaches related to the automatic analysis of low-resolution face images and videos.

The submitted papers should address one or several of the following research topics:

  • face alignment and normalisation techniques,
  • face tracking algorithms,
  • head pose estimation and multi-view approaches,
  • facial expressions, gaze recognition, visual focus of attention estimation,
  • face recognition,
  • 2D+time and 3D analysis, or fusion with data from other types of sensors,
  • super-resolution.

Paper submission

Papers should be prepared according to the AVSS specification and policies using one of the two following templates:

Submit the complete paper of up to six pages (double column) in PDF format before the 25 May 2013 at the:
LRFA submission website

The submission of supplementary material is not possible.

Submitted papers will undergo a "double blind" peer-review. Therefore, submissions should be appropriately anonymised to not reveal the authors' or their institution's identity. A paper submission implies that, if the paper is accepted, one of the authors, or a proxy, will present the paper at the conference.
